Palette Trend: Warm-Eyed Craze

This is another post about this palette trend that I had ready before the summer and that I wanted to post before I started the new year! I also updated it a bit so I could include some recent discoveries, enjoy!

The Trend

Warm toned eye looks are a big thing right now.

Personally this make-up trend is one of the most flattering in the last times. Specially suitable for brown eyes and autumn colors hair, it can actually fit any eye color or complexion. The beauty of this look is that, even when it’s perfectly worked and detailed to any glamour level you want, it still looks kind of natural. Earthy tones speak to us about falling leaves, deep forests, fireplaces and candles. Even with bright hues or the use of glitter, these tones guarantee you a soft appearance, warm and magical, ethereal like the evening sunlight.

The thing is, actual autumn is just around the corner and this trend seem to be preparing its greatest act. Pretty much every cosmetic line has been launching their own version of the ‘perfect warm tones palette’ for the past months. Let’s say for example Lime Crime, Anastasia, and most recently even Urban Decay jumped on the bandwagon with their Naked Heat palette. So, if autumn is always a season for earthy tones, this year is going to be as big as it can get.

The Colors

What colors do these palette actually contain? The most popular options are oranges, deep burgundy reds, soft browns and sparkly peachy tones. The selection allows you to create for the most simple and subtle/shy looks to the most glamorous one using glitter and a perfectly defined and sharp black eyeliner. These hues are also very favorable to recreate the trendy halo eyes look that has been going around so much lately. For me, all these colors give away a sensation of a naturally edgy-grunge-couldn’t care less look, along with some innocent and even fairy-like look.

The Possibilities

From my point of view, the perfect choices to complete this look is a warm toned hair color like a gingery red, a chocolate brown, a strawberry blonde – all in all anything with a warm under tone (imagine the colors of autumn leaves!), and some fake freckles if you don’t already sport some real ones! Some of us are not that lucky.

You can achieve these in multiple ways and if you have doubts you sure can search for a thousand tutorials, but my favorite techniques, and the ones that I think that are the easiest are these. Use a brown mascara that goes well with your complexion and use the brush lightly (or other brush you may wish) to create natural and uneven looking freckles, or if you want to have more control over the size and distribution of the freckles, use a matte long lasting eyeliner pencil or gel. Marc Jacobs Beauty used this last technique on Selena Gomez for her latest video, Fetish. Remember to pair all this with a flawless complexion that doesn’t look to heavy, go for a good coverage but of a dewy/natural finish. You even may be good to go with some concealer and mattifying powder.

If you are willing to try this trend, you can start practicing this look all through the summer, starting with softer and simpler look, just combining a few shadows to enhance your bronzed beach style.

44. Rose Gold: For rosy girls, if you can’t live without your pink lips, this is the one you are looking for! The pink shade is not too bright and its neutral color fits all complexions and skin tones. A look to go; don’t forget how unavoidable rose gold has been in the past seasons for fashion, jewelry, accessories and even hair! So don’t leave your lips unattended and if you want to try this line, start for this shade. Definitely a must!

A tip on how to wear them? Try pairing them either with a metallic look or with colors like black, white, or matte versions of the shade, just as we stated in our Metallic Obsession post! Regarding the rest of your make-up, try keeping it simple in the variety of colors if they are bright. Nudes, smokeys or polished eyeliners are what suit this lipsticks the best, but if you are daring enough, pop some color in!

BeautyBlender: Iconic Basic

Sponges which are intended to apply make-up are more and more successful each day, and that is undoubtedly because of the BeautyBlender, the first of these accessories that reached the heaven of iconic products. Its secret is the beautiful finish it leaves on the skin, similar to the effect we could achieve with an airbrush, with no wrinkles or marks and with a very natural and uniform appearance.

But this sponges are not only useful with foundations but also with cream blush or concealers, which become much more easy to apply and leave astonishing results.

The original BeautyBlender

Its anatomic design makes it perfect for all face shapes, and its material, latex free, is smoother than the ones we are accustomed to in other sponges.

ORIGIN

Rea Ann Silva was a veteran professional make-up artist working in Hollywood who, tired of the sharp sponges that were usually sold, invented in 2007 the iconic BeautyBlender, an elliptical sponge that offers a flawless coverage without wasting any product. Since then, BeautyBlender has gained an infinity of adepts and followers and has become a must-have brand in any shooting, runway or make-up bag.

IMPACT

The best example of the tremendous success that this item has achieved, and the proof to its efficacy and handiness is the millions of versions other brands had launched inspired by the BeautyBlender. From QVS, to Vanity Tools, there is maybe not a single make-up brand that hasn’t its own variation of the famous sponge.

Here we can see some of them.

Not only other brands has benefited from the success of the original BeautyBlender, this same brand has launched several versions of its miracle sponge: different colors, sizes and purpose to fit your needs and aesthetics. They all follow the same principle: the egg shape of the sponge combines a pointy end to keep the details under control (and to reach difficult areas like under the eyes, around the nostrils and the corners of the mouth) with a rounded end to blend out the make-up with that “most wanted” airbrush effect.

The different colors indicate different purposes or limited editions. An easy guide to them is:

  • Purple. Royal purple limited edition. Use as original one for foundation.
  • Gray. BeautyBlusher. To apply blush.
  • Blotterazzi. To blot excess oils for touch ups on the go.
  • Red. Red carpet limited edition. Use as original one for foundation.
  • Black. The Pro one. Multipurpose, to apply foundation, bronzer, self-tanners, blushers and concealers.
  • White. BeautyBlender Pure to change your moisturizing routine, apply your creams and lotions.
  • Green. Micro Mini. Precisely apply concealers.
  • BodyBlender. Flatter and bigger shape to be perfect all over! For body use.

HOW TO USE

  1. The sponge should be submerged underwater to let it be completely soaked. To help the process we can squeeze it several times under the water to allow it to be fully saturated.
  2. We should then squeeze it gently with our hand till it drains. Let the maximum water out.
  3. Remove excess humidity with a towel.
  4. Pour some foundation or product in the back of our hand and soak the part of the sponge that we will be using in it.
  5. Tap gently into the face using different ends of the sponge to achieve different finishes and reach all corners.

It should be washed carefully after each use to prevent make-up to clog it up and leave residues on our face.

Benefit’s Benetint

Benefit’s Benetint is one of those make-up products every beauty addict want to own no matter what. It’s not difficult to understand why it is one of our favorite products: just a few strokes of this cheek and lips tint are enough to get a suitable blush that will stay for hours right on its place.

859128

While you get familiar with the product, let’s talk about its origins. In 1977, an exotic dancer went to visit Benefit co-founders, Jean and Jane Ford, in their shop in San Francisco with a special request: she needed a product that could give a rosy tint to her nipples and that could stay in place after a whole night of show after show. The sisters solution? The elaboration of a red tint made with rose blossoms in their own kitchen. It was so effective that it soon became a success and one of the top-seller and most loved Benefit products.

How to apply it? To achieve the perfect blush, just apply a few dots of the tint upon the cheeks, and quickly, blend them in with a blush brush or with your own fingers. Keep in mind that the tint tends to adhere quickly so don’t take long to do it. To achieve the perfect rosy put, gently paint your lips with the little brush that comes with the product and remember to distribute it evenly before waiting for it to dry. In both cases, the intensity of the color can be built with several layers of product till it reaches your desired point.
