Balmain Spring 2019 Ready To Wear Collection

We all remember the latest Balmain collection.

A dream of holographic neon dreams embodied into metallic elegance. It was one of my favorite fashion shows ever, along with the Spring Summer 2016 collection from Marc Jacobs or the legendary tribute that Versace made to its own creator in 2018. Olivier Rousteig channeled all of french glamour into a disco heaven and the illusion dazzled among us for months. The amazing trend breathed through funky music and synthesizers and started to evolve. And again for the new season, in the latest Paris Fashion week on September, he brought us a new show were his vision became alive again.

_DSC9441

Olivier and Balmain

Olivier Rousteig has that ability that not everybody will consider something positive but that is actually quite effective in the crafting of a fashion concept. He knows what to capture from each trend that is brought on by every creator and collective, and makes his on tribute to it in his collections.

Also I think that if the previous Spring Summer collection and the Fall Winter 2018 one were a little bit more disconnected between them, this one is a perfect follow up of the latest collection. You can clearly see that holographic disco dream evolving into more light textures, softer colors and more translucent or transparent crystal like creations. He manages to almost fit both collection into one unique season-evolving work of art, the year of the glam.
Since this is I think a really remarkable characteristic of this collection – its deep relation with the previous one – I’m going to pose this article a little bit differently. Not only this collection seems like an evolution of the previous one, but within it the different concepts seem a lot more related to each other, and you can see the contrasting inspirations blend into each other in a carousel of perfectly matching influences.

But first of all and as always, let’s appreciate the show itself in its full glory and then we’ll proceed to discuss the more iconic pieces of this astounding collection.
Enjoy!

The Fashion Show

The 28th of September 2018 at 11:30 a.m. local time, took place the presentation of the Balmain Spring Ready-To-Wear 2019 collection during the Paris Fashion Week.

As always, the elegant and minimalist staging, in that beautiful and already known to all lounge that breathes of Versailles influence with its mirrors, columns and chandeliers, was the key to presenting this collection in a perfect way, where each item is a work of art itself from which you can’t take your eyes off.

Let’s dive into the Parisian chic magic of this incredible show.

The Looks and Inspirations

The show opens up with a fierce entrance by Cara Delevingne, who I must say it’s not of my favorite models but does an amazing job here at starting the show lip syncing to the amazing ‘When Doves Cry‘ by Prince, that started before the show in its cover version by Quindon Tarver . I’m not a big fan of hers but I’m definitely a fan of spectacle and attitude and this moment set ups the mood for the whole show majestically. Her outfit its the pure embodiment of her attitude, an armored metallic top that we’ll see different versions of during the show and man suit cut dream of white satin that flows behind her as a royal cape. The outrageous femininity of the Balmain army is at its peak from the moment the show starts.

Iridescence and White

The first row of creations are an ode to white in all its possible textures and shapes. We see flowing satin, transparencies, and geometric constructions and patterns that either fit the body’s figure or create and entire different volume itself. Where we had a bold and dark holographic statement in the last collection, we have here the luminosity of iridescence.

Metallic finishes are also present in accessories and garments, always in silvery or cold shades that compliment perfectly the purity and versatility of white. Also we can see some asymmetric designs that combine the impression of more than one cut or texture at the same time.

Egypt and Paris

Then the show develops into a tribute to the Egyptian civilization. This will come in the form of marbled patterns, over black and white grays that remind of the stones used for their monumental constructions, also using different finishes to embellish the pieces. Later on, this influence will become as clear as hieroglyphics patterns over more classic textures like cotton or wool, may I say I guess even linen to carry the tribute to the next level, as ‘Another One Bites the Dust‘ by Queen starts playing.

Here we may quote what Olivier Rousteig himself said about this collection:

“It’s Paris meets Egypt, because every morning when I wake up I see the Obélisque on La Concorde, and the Pyramide du Louvre… I think it’s really important to mention that so much of the beauty of Paris is in its history, and its history is not only what we call French.”

Denim Armor

Denim makes it first appearance on the show accompanied by more of these iconic armors that also remind of a Cleopatra inspired aesthetic. The pointy shoulder pads keep plaguing the designs, making a bold statement of power and elegance.

The denim appears washed out, torn and worn out, combining it with some polished pieces of a meticulously treated finish, like gauze or sequins. I’m particularly fond of the use of super light, almost white denim that appears strategically bleached, specially in a jacket that you can see below and that is one of my favorite pieces of the whole collection.

Nudes and Pastels

After a brief interlude of white, the nude colors start to appear with different textures and effects. The shades chosen are much more powdery and blushed that the ones of the last collection, giving a more appropriate feeling for spring. Reflecting garments and soft finishes like velvety textures and leather are all over these pieces, playing with gradients of tones and fabrics to put together the most elegant looks of the collection.

The nude shades then blend into pastel colors that still say ‘Balmain’ with every inch of its geometry. Where we had neons over black for the past fall, we have now a delightful combination of minty greens, pale pinks, salmons and washed out blues, that once again are combined with denim and with the metallic accessories that are always the leif motiv of Olivier Rousteig collections.

For me, this metallic obsession becomes specially appealing when it’s in the form wonderfully reflecting and dazzling shattered mirror form, sometimes achieving the category of angelic disco ball armor. The beauty of these pieces is simply astonishing.

Geometric Classicism

After that the collection arrives to a point where it retrieves the most classical lines of fashion. Pieces in fabrics that remind those of the most classic Chanel designs, in simple but elegant black and white. Anyhow, in spite of this classical inspiration, the shapes and cuts of the pieces adopt one more time the characteristic geometry of Olivier Rousteig designs, going back from time to time to this ethereal concept of asymmetry.

The most remarkable designs of this row are for me these two below, where we can see the now almost traditional Balmain dress cut in intricate patterns that remind of empty 3D spaces and models.

Structure and Texture

To end the show, the black and white line of creation keeps being expanded and developed into multiple different designs and pieces that use the combination of textures and finishes to achieve an elegant but transgressive visual impact.

Playing around with this concepts, always faithful to his style, the collection and the show is finished impeccably.

Bravo!

Details

Here we can see the details of the designs more closely.

Plastic garments such as the original handbags and high heeled shoes are present all through the collection, often combined with metallic finishes, crystals and synthetic transparencies.

Beauty

To draw attention to the impressive creations, the beauty department behind Balmain’s show chose once again a very clean and polished makeup for the models. The idea is to achieve a perfectly flawless and natural looking skin full of youth and health, with very subtle colors that create almost a no-makeup makeup look that let the outfits shine through.

The same concept is applied to the hair, were you can see it is almost always polished pulled back or left to naturally flow around in a side parting, not to steal the thunder from the collection.

All our attention is drawn to the fashion creations in a masterfully way.

And that is all for now!

I really hope you enjoyed this collection and that you can take some inspiration from it for next spring. I personally enjoy a lot that Olivier Rousteig chose to expand the disco inspiration that he followed in his last collection with a lighter and brighter twist in this one. I expect

Stay tuned for more articles really soon!

Lots of love.

Met Gala 2018 Heavenly Bodies: Top Looks of the Night

Met Gala 2018

Last night we could attend to the biggest night of the year for the fashion industry: the Met Gala.

The theme of this year was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, so we knew beforehand that it was going to be a night to be remembered. Fashion designers and celebrities sometimes spend weeks or even months designing and preparing their creations for the red carpet of this famous night, and having that theme in mind, we knew that the looks were going to be resounding.

There were sure some Lady Gaga moments, though they were sadly not starred by herself since she didn’t attend, like the Pope inspired dress and headpiece that Rihanna wore, but for me there were also some seriously stylish and beautiful looks that deserved some attention.

Some of my favorite designers worked in the dresses that paraded the red carpet last night and I’m here to share with you the most iconic looks of the night!

Though there were some that practically broke the internet as they made their appearance, there were also that, leaving the hype aside, spoke loudly of the true love for fashion. Let’s see them.

And that’s all for now!
Obviously, since Donatella was one of the hosts, Versace was a house that shone brightly all through the night and that dressed a high number of the attendants. And they did that masterfully!

Some of the most resonated looks didn’t quite hit the mark for me, but others, like this last one from Versace for Gigi Hadid, the one from Dior that Cara Delevigne wore, or the Joan of Arc inspired design from Versace that Zendaya rocked, were for me truly beautiful and spoke really highly of the houses that confectionated them.

Also a great respect for Kim Kardashian for choosing a design of Gianni Versace!
If you want to read about (and watch!) the Tribute collection Donatella made to her brother Gianni in last fall’s Milan Fashion Week, check this article.

I hope you have time to take a look at the Met Gala 2018 designs and make your own selection of your favorite looks.

Lots of love, and hoping to see you around soon!

Versace Tribute Collection: Spring Ready-To-Wear 2018

An article about the Tribute collection from Versace on last fall’s Fashion week has been on my drafts since September. Now that I’m watching the American Crime Story season about the assassination of Gianni Versace, this has all come back to me along with a huge intensification of my crush on Versace.

Writing about collections has been a recurring idea on my mind since I wrote the article about the Balmain Ready To Wear Fall 2018 collection and fashion show. I just love watching the shows and understanding the collections as the work of art they are, and this one from Versace specially honors that idea.

24a575534a2e7145308a92fea23e2011

Let’s talk a bit about the tribute collection and the brand first.

The tribute

Gianni Versace last collection was presented on July 1997, just before his murder. After that, the management of the company passed along to their siblings, the famous icon Donatella and his brother Santo. Though actually the half of the company was inherited according to his will by his niece Allegra Beck, Donatella’s daughter, she has never been really fond of being associated with the place that Versace occupies among the greatest fashion houses of all time.

On last fall’s Fashion Week at Milan, Versace presented a tribute collection that Donatella specially meant to honor his brother on the 20th anniversary of his passing away.

When I saw the collection, I was in one word, astounded. At the moment I didn’t know how much it was actually a deeply inspired in Gianni’s vision and designs, but after researching a bit I was amazed beyond words. You know that I have a thing for the 90s, 80s, 70s and probably every decade that I didn’t get the chance to live in. But the love and the dedication with which this collection honored those times and the concept of fashion that was held then, is one that I truly never saw before.

The vision

Gianni Versace’s vision of clothes was that they had to make the person who was wearing them feel happy. Fashion was his passion and he designed every item with a love and dedication that reflected his tender craftsman heart. He started out with a little boutique and he grew his company from scratch, basing everything in this idea he had that women were goddesses and their looks should reflect that nature to make them justice because they were born to shine. The first time he designed a dress, it was for his sister Donatella, who he loved with all his heart, and on one occasion he said that probably he still designed every item with her in his mind. Family was the most important thing for him, and his love for fashion came probably since he was born from his mother Francesca, who owned a tiny workshop where her son help her sew and sketch patterns.

Versace was not only a man, but a family of traditions and love, which now makes perfect sense with the will of Donatella of honoring his lost brother now, twenty years after. The man who was vogue.

Versace Tribute Collection SS 2018

Let’s dive deep into this collection now, one of my favorites of the last year, and certainly the most touching and were I can see more passion. Donatella has consecrated herself as one of the greatest here, in the fashion history and in my heart as well.

Fashion is about love, that was his brother’s vision, and that she channeled in an impeccable way.

The show

If you haven’t watched this show, I’m not recommending it to you, I’m saying you MUST watch it right now if you love fashion and you consider it an art. Furthermore, if you consider that life and love is a thing to be celebrated, this show is something that won’t leave you indifferent even if you don’t like this house style.

Just dim the lights, grab your headphones, set the video to 1080p and get ready for the greatest tribute ever made to a fashion designer, to a creator, and an artist.

What can I say after that.
You have heard her talked about him and you have seen the mastery with which she captured a whole era and a soul in a collection. His passion, his vision, her love for him, the love of the world for him, his place in history, his role in fashion, his muses, the woman. His spirit. Everything was there. She made history.

Hats off.

The looks

Now let’s see some of my favorite looks, ones that will stay in my heart forever and that in my opinion, will last forever in fashion history.

And these two, which are the best looks in my opinion and that were both worn by Grace Hartzel:

_VER0129_VER0785

The inspiration

Finally, the greatest part of this tribute collection: the way it honored the past. Let’s see how Gianni’s designs inspired many of the looks in this collection, and let’s just be amazed at the love with which this was made. Tribute is a word that came alive with this collection.

I hope you loved this collection as much as me.

I will probably be writing about other one soon so tell me if you like the idea!
Lots of love.

MOSCHINO x H&M Collaboration: Exclusive! 8 Nov 2018

Is your dream to add some Moschino to your closet but the price is out of your budget? Fear not! In the last hour we have known which is the next collaboration of H&M – and that’s right, Jeremy Scott is here to the rescue!
MOSCHINO x H&M

H&M Collaborations

H&M collaborations have brought to us great designers and brands to a more economic environment.

I must say this is one of my favorite to-go brands, it always has edgy designs, cool T-Shirt and trendy outfits in every style you can imagine, besides from the great range of make-up and accessories. I would be lying if I didn’t say that most of my non-expensive part of my wardrobe is H&M. Another great thing (for me) about them and that is the main reason I love them is that they always has a great supply of metallic, sequins and holographic  items, which for me (yes I’m that 80s disco slave) is the base of any happy fashionista.

Going back to the collaborations, I can recall some of my most favorite ones, though most of them happened when I still didn’t have the fashion fever! Here are some of them:

  • Comme des Garçons x H&M, 2008

By the way if you didn’t read the article about the last Balmain fashion show, have a look here because it was an astounding collection!

MOSCHINO

The high luxury fashion house was founded in 1983 by Franco Moschino, and has set itself aside since then with its characteristic use of leather accessories and shoes. From the beginning, Franco Moschino and his brand became famous for its innovative, eccentric and colorful designs (of which I must say I’m a real fan!). He was also known for his criticism about the fashion industry, his social awareness campaigns and his love for fairies!

The current art director of Moschino, the wonderful Jeremy Scott, has already dazzled us this year with his impressive collaboration with MAC Cosmetics. If you didn’t get to take a look at this collection, check it out now!

From this amazing creations by Jeremy Scott and one of my favorite makeup brands, all I have for the collaboration with H&M is excitement and impatience! I just can’t wait for it to be launched.

Also here you have the Spring Summer 2018 collection Jeremy Scott presented for Moschino in the Milan Fashion Week if you want to peek at what may be coming!

Immerse yourself in this wonderful fashion show!

I must say I totally love that collection, very Madonna in the 80s and 90s inspired but with a millennial ‘wow’ twist. It is definitely a collection I could write a whole article about, if you want me to just let me know!

MOSCHINOxH&M

The collaboration was announced today and the date set for it is 8 Nov. 2018.
Mark it in your calendar if you don’t want to lose this opportunity to grab a piece of the Moschino magic for prices that will be ranging between 25$ and 300$.

For all my fashionistas, see you in November!

Balmain Ready To Wear Fall 2018 Collection

Balmain: the new king of the Paris Fashion Week. This fall be ready to fall under the disco spell that Olivier Rousteing has casted upon the fashion industry.

_AG31066

Today we’ll see of one of the collections that has made me fall in love the hardest these last Fashion Weeks since that Marc Jacobs collection that I still dream of. I’m talking about the dazzling, the wonderful, the absolutely stunning Balmain Fall Ready To Wear 2018 collection.

The Show

Olivier Rousteing, currently the creative designer of this fashion house, left us all astounded when he presented his collection in the last Paris Fashion Week. First of all, I leave you here the full show if you still haven’t seen it!

The Idea

Some people has talk about futuristic inspiration in this collection. I personally can’t help think of the 70s and the 80s. It’s true, and more and more people can’t deny me this, disco is coming back.

I’m talking about fashion, make-up, music, just everything in the industry is retrieving (wisely) that dazzling vibe that has the power to catch our eye and our heart in way that only a disco ball can! The collection is also elegant.

Beside the silvery holographic siren soldiers, we can also see some nude and black designs that speak of silent glam and Marcel Duchamp, some Pop Art inspired creations and a lot of Yves Klein blue. Art is very present on this collection, and the fact that disco is treated as one more art (maybe the art of the 20s?) pleases me beyond what I can express with words. Arts and the disco era speak to me on so many levels that the idea of this fashion trend coming back with so many artistic references is just a dream come true.

The music

The music at the show just confirms all this with a radiant combination of disco classics remixes, like for example Yazoo’s “Don’t Go,” A-ha’s “Take On Me,” and Kim Wilde’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”. And also the inmortal ‘Heart of Glass’ from Blondie in a version that seems out of a Baz Luhrmann movie and that will take your own heart. It was simply a beautiful show that simply can’t be described with enough justice.

The show can even be used as a playlist for totally glamorous inspiration and productivity. This is no lie, some friends of mine has actually done this and, no doubt, I’m hearing it right now as I write. I totally encourage you to do the same!

The looks

The Balmain collection had 92 amazing designs. For what I’ve understood from the collection, I can group the looks in four main categories:

Holographs and Sequins

Most of the looks had this disco glam feel that was the one that made me fall in love.

We can see lots of metallics, shiny fabrics, holographic sequins and translucent special effects. Silver and the holographic finish are the ones that most clearly rule these looks, though we can also find some sequins in black. One of the things that amazed me the more was some black creations with an holographic finish that I still don’t understand how it was achieved. Marvelous!

The textures combinations were infinite, the designs amazing and the colors didn’t need more than those jewels that are silver, black, holographic finishes and sequins of all sizes.

Particularly beautiful were the designs that only included black fabrics and sequins.

Nudes and Duchamp

Seeing the nude and black designs from Balmain, and seeing the artistic references that I could get from the other designs, I couldn’t help but think of Duchamp’s famous painting “Nude descending a staircase”.

Duchamp_-_Nude_Descending_a_Staircase

These looks were one of the most elegant of the collections, highly combinable with almost any kind of accessory.

Yves Klein’s blue

1503624525_601062_1503625827_noticia_normal_recorte1

Yves Klein was a french artist of the 50s and 60s identified with the neodadaist movement. He was so keen on one particular blue hue that he had a paint specifically design for him, with which he painted almost all of his works. He is also seen as an inspiration and forerunner for pop art (which is also later included in the show!) and minimalistic art.

In the collection we can see some designs with the emblematic Yves Klein blue.

Pop Art and Bright Colors

The last previous category bring us directly into the Pop Art inspiration for a lot of the designs. Using Yves Klein blue as a leif motiv, the house brought us a combination of pop art shapes and colors (main primary ones, cyan, yellow and magenta), some metallic or holographic finishes and some black ink. These designs were astounding, particularly the dresses that resembled neon designs.

All of them were really expressionist and remind me of artists like Miró or Warhol but with a much interesting twist if I have to be honest, because those artist have never been of my favorites.

Apart from these categories, there were also some sequined T-shirts, some denim blue designs that reminded even more of the 80s and some holographic nude-almost-white design, but I think those four categories summarize pretty well the collection and its inspirations.

The make-up

The make-up chosen for the show was really simple. I was based on a perfect natural looking skin, enhanced subtly with make-up products like nude foundations, concealer, mascara, blushes and highlighters. The look was a no-make-up make-up look and it was achieved perfectly.

The inspiration was clearly the glow of a naturally healthy looking skin, with no imperfections, an even tone and a natural light coming through it. I think the election of the make-up look for the models was perfect because this way it let the designs shine without drawing any attention to the make-up. The hair styles were also polished but naturals, mainly long manes with part sides, but also some fringes and short hair, but generally no up-dos at all.

If you still haven’t read the article about the glow trend and you like this look, go check it out!

Details

Here you have a selection of the details from the show and designs that I found most dazzling!

This is it!
I must say I’m really grateful to the fashion world for this collection, I enjoy one that makes me fall in love as much as one of those movies that touches your heart in every way and that you only get the luck to find once every few years.
All in all, thank you Balmain, thank you Olivier Rusteing for restoring my faith in the industry and for giving us the gift of fashion in it maximum expression as an art.  And also for reassuring me in my theory that disco is coming back!

I have no words to describe how much I love this. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I do.

Don’t hesitate to share your opinions!

Thank you so much for being here one more day and have a wonderful day!

Marc Jacobs SS17 Ready-To-Wear Collection

Now that the New York Fashion Week is coming again, I thought it was time to revise one of my favorite collections from the autumn/winter one last September, the Marc Jacobs SS17 collection. Not only it was a proper time to do this kind of revival because of the upcoming event, but also because the season for which it was intended is practically here!

It’s time to start thinking about spring and the styles and trend that are going to rule over the rest. We have had since autumn to think about all the designers proposals and the hour of truth has arrived. Were they right?

The Marc Jacobs collection had inimitable unique style – textures, colors, and a deeply dreamy neon 90s vibe. If this designer is and always will be one of my favorites if not the most, is because he always seem unable to get enough of the grunge era. Not only in its dark side but also in its disco/glam version. Who doesn’t love his MTV deep magenta sweatshirt? As a 90s lover myself, Marc Jacobs never lets me down.

But back to the SS17 collection, why was it so special? Which were the main proposals for the season? If you ask me, if I had to choose a material to summarize the concept, it will definitely be holographic pastel snake skin. Too intrincate? Not at all if you know Jacobs. Imagine a ‘heroin chic meets gothic lolita’ collection. And now see it!

Other clear influence is the Japanese vibe added by the ‘gothic lolita’ side of the collection. The inspiration doesn’t stop there and it goes further and further with beautiful embroideries, silky finishes and pop art details. Kawaii!

I’ve selected only a few of my favorite looks from the runway, but they are surely enough to illustrate the idea. The color palette is delicate and bold at the same time, deep colors are left aside to let the textures shine. Details and accessories are a must and platforms shoes are not an option but a basic! The overall look is powdered but dazzling, something that looks innocent enough to fit the youth but also powerful. This collection states ‘Young doesn’t mean naive’. Hail the holographic baroque.

The basis are clear. An eclectic mix of textures, fabrics and finishes. Velvet, silk, denim, camouflage, wool, cotton, knitwear, sequins, animal print, glitter, jewels, metallic details, ribbons, patches, pastels, leather and platforms.

It looks that it anticipated the season perfectly. It follows the line that has so deeply marked the autumn/winter season but with a dash of daylight, different finishes and fabrics give the collection a multidimensional quality that doesn’t leave anyone indifferent. Stockings are the primordial accessory and oversized jackets, full of patches and mixtures of details add deep contrast to the looks.

Another really important point of this whole collection was the show itself, being the stage one of the most beautiful and charming displays of creativity and passion that I’ve ever seen on a runway!

Purple Rain: New Regal Hue

Purple is the new black.
Step aside, blue, red and green, the new basic color for elegance is this iconic and unique blend.

purple-27
Autumn and winter are all about elegance and luxury.

No matter what your style is, the cold always suits our looks since it allows all of us to mix and match beyond our greatest fantasies. Deep hues, rich textures, precious metals and stones, black leather, polished make-up and perfect haircuts are some of the basic features of the beauty of autumn and winter fashion.
And today one of those deep hues is the star: purple.

Purple is conquering the world of fashion. Not just in street fashion or couture, but also make-up, cosmetics, arts and design. It is the perfect union of fantasy and royalty, the naive vibe of dreams and folktales and the sultry elegance of the old continent. Its versatility also covers the new century and its neon glow: techno, glam rock and the holographic wave all over. Purple is like a sci-fi fairy tale, classicism meets disco. Welcome to the purple reign.

The connection of purple color with luxury comes from far back in history.

Traditionally, it was only worn by royalty, aristocracy and members of the Church, due to the cost of purple dyes and therefore, clothing of this color. In the nineteenth century the shade mauve was created while a chemistry student tried to make synthetic quinine, which became fashionable after Queen Victoria wore a gown of this color. Shortly after this, the industrial production of some purple dyes finally settled its place among arts and fashion, managing to reach all social classes. At the end of the century, this color became then really popular among painters, like Pre-Raphaelites and later, Gustav Klimt.

Finally, in the 20th century, the oneiric quality of the color was achieved during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
During the first two decades, it became associated with psychedelics and musicians, as well as with counterculture. Some examples are Jimi Hendrix, with his song Purple Haze from 1967, or Deep Purple, the popular English rock band which formed in 1968. In the 80s, the color appeared in the song and album by Prince, Purple Rain (1984). In pop culture, it soon was one of the favorite colors for video games, still nowadays.

Couture

Winter is almost upon us and with its regal trend the use of purple in fashion collections is reaching a peak. It is being seen specially in rich textures like brocades, suede, lace, patterns and precious metals embroideries.

Beauty

Make-up and hair have also jumped into the bandwagon. Special effects are the key to this trend, metallic finishes and glitter rule over minimalist or matte looks. Holographic hues that turn to blue, pink or teal are also really popular.

The union between magenta and cyan, the two colors most used in artistic direction of movies right now, purple symbolizes uniqueness and infinite possibilities. It contains everything and at the same time can mean emptiness. The alpha and the omega.

Metallic Obsession: Last Trend

Today I bring you other post about this autumn’s fashion trends: metallic.

metals

While I was writing The Glitter Mania post I was already aware of the new metallic boom in fashion industry, but today as I wondered through the mall I realized that this trend is shooting for the stars and actually reaching them! The outer space feel is now so in right now that it is actually hard to enter a store and not find few of these amazing pieces. Jackets were already mentioned in the last post, but this fever goes far beyond: pants, blouses, dresses, skirts, coats and accessories are just a few to mention.

This season is all about shining and sparkling!

What is so great about this trend? The glamorous vibe.

All precious metal mean the same, luxury, richness, deep colors, textures and effects. Jewelry in the form of clothing. You can find a great variety of hues for this trend but the king and queen are silver and gold, while rose gold and gunmetal are a definite second place. You can find these colors in almost infinite finishes, as we said before, from sparkly, to glittery, frosted, foiled, gems, worn out or rusty.

How to wear this trend?

Fashion is always as you want it, but if you want some ideas, there are two options that seem to be the more spotted in runways and street fashion: either a total look, everything with the same fabric or finish, or a combination of one piece of clothing in a high impact metallic effect and softer matte colors close to the metallic shade selected. For example, if you are willing to rock a silver skirt, try different hues of grey for your top and shoes, or combine a golden blouse with rosy nude tones. The key to create the perfect look is to always let the metals shine, so pick simple textures and subtly saturated colors to achieve the most elegant first impression!

All in all, this trend is a must try for all fashionistas out there, specially the ones in need to feel like a diva.

And now if you want to achieve this look in a more casual way, check out these gorgeous pieces that I picked from Zara‘s editorial, which not in vane, is called Bling Bling. Now you know how serious fashion is about this trend!

Glitter Mania

Glitter is back! Autumn is already too dark, so give your look the sparkle we inherited from the 70s glam!

If the fashion war between the 80s and the 90s that we are currently experienced wasn’t enough, another decade enters the game. While the 60s rocked last summer and are as recurrent as always in make up trends, this year’s charm are the 70s. With the departure of our beloved hero, David Bowie, his style and spirit has been channeled since in every fashion innovation. Though glam rock wasn’t always necessarily so out of space, they didn’t name it ‘glam’ for nothing. He created the maximum expression of it and the whole world has been honoring his memory in the form of style for the whole year. Want to see some examples?

Many famous artists started this fever by paying homage to the man who fell to earth, recreating some of his most memorable looks and iconic moments. Not that he wasn’t already a huge influence in fashion, music and arts. A real star man.

The this turned into a whole fashion industry earthquake: the 70s were back more powerful than ever. Glitter, metallic, silver, colorful make up, and over everything, the polished style, rule all over the kingdom, spiced up by the pale, thin, out of this world look and mysterious personality that Bowie left us. Here you can see some runway pieces that fit this awesome movement.

The trend then finally joined the 80s and 90s in the clothing stores. You can already find some of these looks in your city center, luckily! If you don’t know where to start to rock this look, I’ll give you my three musts for embracing this trend.

Metallic Jacket:

The perfect item that fits all three decades, it can be styled into any of them just knowing what to add to the look. More worn out finishes give more of an 80s or 90s Pink Floyd Quicksilver look, while the real metallic or even glittery ones magically transport you to the 70s and their disco vibe. Indispensable for night outs and concerts, combined with dark colors and a color block make-up to be the real star down town.

Platforms:

Naive but daring, choose some bold and colorful platforms to go with your eclectic look! The 70s were the decade were you could mix up Victorian blouses with superhero pants and intergalactic shoes. We were all kings and queens of our own planet and the real statement of a fashion attitude resides always in the shoes! Platforms are the true soul of the disco world, so search for the most appealing ones. There are never enough effects, metallic, glitter, neon, holographic, animal print – combine two or more and you won’t leave anyone indifferent. Is this a maybe-too-much trend for some people? Yes. But I love it.

Sheer Stockings:

To finish polishing your look, and to go with everything we have mentioned, don’t forget to pack up some cool vibe stockings. Wearing them with high heels and platforms is back and skinny cut pants give them a powerful role in your look. They combine perfectly with your glam rock shoes, remember, the more the better! I personally like how colorful net stockings look with glitter shoes and also sheer shimmery dark stockings with metallic platforms or sandals. This is definitely the winning match of this season and I’ll leave you with some inspirations from now and always:

Now that you have the key to be dressed for success go burn the city down with your killer glam look. The night is young and we are too!

Ballets Russes

Forever dancing. Ballet, the art that most perfectly represents the beauty and exquisiteness of fashion, floods this season’s trends.

Couture has always been in love with the Russians vibes, from royalty to folktales, and ballet is a crush that never gets old.

  • Fashion

Russia is the perfect combination of magical, cold and regal and it breathes luxury and classicism.

This autumn and winter, it comes back to us in ballet inspired fashion, from accessories to shoes, decoration, clothing, jewelery or even furniture. The looks shine with delicacy, every piece seem exclusively design and made to fit you, preserving the richness of the concept. Gold, silver, precious stones, soft earth tones, white and black are the bases of this inspirarion, along with rich deep dark colors such as green, blue or red, in shades that reminds of royal gowns.

Dream of snow and palaces with these runway looks:

  • Beauty

Equally, make-up trends follow the same pattern to fit the exquisite cold touch of this fashion. A dark bold lip combined with pale and flawless skin is the key to this look. The make-up has to be perfectly applied, no smudges though the eye shadows had to be well blended out. The new make-up trend fever, the strobing, pairs perfectly with what you want to achieve – use one with a frosted finish to enhance the cold feeling of the look. Aim for cool tones, soft pinks, silvery finishes and rich appearances. Good worked lashes are also a must, deep black, with volume and length, polished and with the mascara perfectly applied. Berry and earthy tones, always deep, for eyes and lips are the choice for this look.

Sort your favorites out of these and replicate the high fashion feeling:

  • Jewelry

Think of the Romanov and you have your answer: crowns, diamonds, necklaces, earrings, all things sultry and fine. Delicacy and elegance is the key to achieve this looks without looking ordinary or faux.

Embroidered Baseball Jackets

The last autumn trend of this weekend will be one of the most beautiful I’ve seen for the season!

From all the grunge inspired items for this fall, this one stands out for being the rebellious glam rock one, because the 70s and 80s were just as awesome!
We sure had a sneak peak of the fever coming when Gaga released the perfect Illusion music video, right?

640713

A few years ago, baseball jackets popularity reached a peak, and new they have come back more stylish than ever. As other fashion trends of this season, it has the quality of being as innovative as eclectic, a reloaded version of past decades fashion achievements. Embroidered baseball jackets have arrived to make you fall in love.

For me, this item is the must have of the season.
The most popular designs are of Chinese inspiration, which are also the ones that have reached the stores the most! Let’s go here for a little history lesson:

The art of embroidery in China dates back 6.000 years, ancient vestiges having been found in Neolithic sites. Due to the early production of silk in this area, most of the embroideries were made of this fabric, which added strength and longevity to the work thank to the silk fiber quality. With the opening of the Silk Road, the silk production and trade flourished and quickly reached its high peak during the 14th century, while its color had already been perceived as a guide of social class since the 7th century during the Tang Dynasty. Though most handwork has been replaced by machinery nowadays, the most sophisticated production is still  hand-made, specially in southern China.

Now, in runway and street fashion, it has made it way back to us once more, as elegant and exquisite as always, now achievable through much simpler, casual and relaxed looks. These designs are clogging up every story and have soon become the item of the season. Looking where to find yours? Here you have some examples!

Stradivarius

Zara

H&M

The possibilities are great and the versatility of this item it’s worth getting one. Pair it with a dress and military boots to look casual for a festival or use one of the most delicate design it as a replacement for you blazer on your next event! They range from the most transgressor punk motives to the most refined and luxurious, so if you don’t want to let this trend escape, start looking for your best match!

I personally recommend a reversible one from Zara, specially if you are indecisive! Get two looks for the price of one and start imagining your next night out rocking it at the bar or the club.

The Sheer Overlay Dress

While the grunge comeback has some features that we have always enjoyed, like bands t-shirts, second hand Dr. Martens and leather jackets, there are other recent last minute trends that have us dazed and confused.

Just like in the T-Shirt under the Slip Dress trend, the sheer dress over a regular rocker outfit is a subject that inevitably calls our attention!

Probably you have reached your local favorite clothes looking for some autumnal inspiration and have encountered in the front mannequins something like this:

Just as we did in spring, overlaying sheer outfit with a bolder one seems to be the new way of not letting the seasons go by. If waving winter goodbye meant floral dresses over denim pants, the autumn trend is clear: sheer dresses over grunge outfits. Black is, as the mighty 90s rule the trends this season, the must wear color for this look, so if you are willing to give this a try, keep an eye on the queen of colors!

6860141040_1_1_1

The black lacy beach dress you wore all August will perfectly do the trick to get this look, but every clothing brand at the mall have embraced the new season developing a few designs of these dresses for their fall line, less lacy, more sheer, with a back alley after the concert vibe. The best thing about this combination is, overlaying the dress over a basic outfit would almost mean that no accessories at all will be needed to make this look feel completed. Skinny jeans and a basic top, all black everything, will get you feeling just like Courtney Love the second you put the cherry (dress) on top!

Why this trend? The plain dresses play a strong role this season. In awe to the grunge culture, the wish of never growing up translates itself in the popularity of these plain, innocent dresses, that in one way or another get their way to our wardrobe no matter what. Almost naive, the contrast achieved when combined with a dark and mysterious, witchy look, is what makes this so special. The game of textures and finishes enables you to make a double impression.

7151562303_1_1_3

Setting aside that the basic item for rocking out this look is the sheer black dress, you can go further with great variety of colors and effects of the dress fabric. As seen above (a personal favorite!), you can find almost anything, from pastels, to metallic looks, embroidered details and whatnot! If you want to think big and doing things the easiest way is not for you, ditch the black simple one and don’t hesitate to go searching the right one for you!

The possibilities of this trend are tremendous and the combinations infinite. If you are familiar with the 90s style, just dress yourself up as you would normally and then add the dress! It suits every body types and complexions, and the delicate but grungy vibe won’t leave people indifferent.

If there’s one trend I like this season, and that I’m definitely willing to try, is this one!

T-Shirt under Slipdress

Here come the 90s striking back in fashion!

We knew the grunge era would be the next decade to come back in its full intensity to fashion and beauty trends: chokers, dark lips, smudged eyeliner, pale faces with a sunken in look, pleaded shirts, and now, the latest incorporation which popularity has escalated dizzily since the autumn started: the basic t-shit under a slipdress!

This look is almost inescapable since it can be seen pretty much in every shop front. Still doubting? Take a look at these!

It rang a bell right?
It’s true: aside from being a hot trend right now, it’s kind of eye catching, and particularly surprising how big an impact it has made considering its apparent oddity.
This trend hasn’t only been brought back from the 90s, when we could see Alicia Silverstone or Drew Barrymore rocking it, it has actually been taken further: the basic top under a dress has reached now the point of the wool jumper under the night dress. Quite disturbing, maybe, but in its right measure, as fashionable as anything!

What is the key to this look? Don’t over do it.

As much as the extreme version is what the clothing companies try to sell us, I think that the simpler version of the 90s is much more beautiful and suiting. Let’s see a comparison:

In my opinion, while the 90s look preserved the innocence of the youth, the new one seems a little too artificial.

Anyhow, it must be staten: fashion is to have fun with it, to express yourself and play with the possibilities, so, if you want to take this look to the extreme version, go for it! No one can tell you what to wear and this won’t be the case either! That was the fun part about the 90s too, everyone could look as they wanted and feel awesome about it, the rules in street fashion were less strict than now and people didn’t care about what others thought. That was the spirit of the grunge era and it should be the one of this one too! Didn’t have time to tame your mane? Who cares! Fancy those glitter scrunchies? Go for them! Ripped jeans? Show them off!

It is true than the fashion industry, this doesn’t seem to be the intention of the grunge trend: healthy looking people now struggle to look like a sleep deprived, under weighted and drug addict rock star. But this wasn’t the base of those years. It was that you could look messed up and still be good, while now it seems that you must look messed up or go home. This is a pity, but that would be another subject.

All in all, embrace trends as they come if you want to, no matter how you look, have fun, and find your style! And if you were wondering if the slip dress over a t-shirt was just a street fashion trend or not, I leave you with some runway images to solve your doubts!
