Take Me With You: Fourth Ray Beauty First Impressions

Are you thinking of trying Colourpop sister brand Fourth Ray Beauty?

Give this article a go and know everything about it before making up your mind!

Hello everyone!

I bring you today a review of a brand that has had me craving over their products for such a long time. As you may know by now, I am a die hard Colourpop addict, and if you follow this brand you might know that earlier in 2018 they introduced a brand called ‘Fourth Ray Beauty‘ that was defined as their ‘sister’. And that’s pretty much everything you have to tell me to get me to try something. I really love skincare, I really love Colourpop, and as you may know I’ve been recently getting into the double cleanse method, and since this brand had a cleansing oil as part as their daily routine products, I decided to excitedly give it a go.

FOURTH RAY BEAUTY DEATHLESS VOGUE

Conveniently, Fourth Ray Beauty is also sold (at least the majority of the products) at the Colourpop website, so after controlling myself for a few months and always wanting to get it on my cart, I finally added it to my Colourpop order. Even more conveniently, they have curated kits with all the products you need for your routine or needs in a mini size, so you can get to try all the products and evaluate the results before buying a full size. I have to say that I love this idea because you get to experience the fullest of the brand without spending too much, which is ideal for getting into new skin care methods and routines. Sometimes products are meant to be great together and we can’t always purchase all of them at once, and for this matter Fourth Ray Beauty has the perfect solution.

Take Me With You Set

While already having my heart set on more of their kits and products, I ordered the ‘Take Me With You‘ kit before anything else, so I got to taste the full Fourth Ray Beauty experience while I figure out what I was going to do with all the other appealing kit options.

It finally arrived home and when I was in the right mood and had the right amount of free time and calmness, I got my kit out and began the ritual.

First off, let’s see what’s inside the kit and what these products promise us. I’m also going to include the ingredients because they can’t be found on the package and I first thought this was kind of strange, we all know that ingredients are important!

The Review

I’ll now be reviewing each one of the products and they I’ll give my general opinion and conclusions about the set and its efficiency when used together.

BFD Cleansing Oil

The cleansing oil is one of my favorite products of the set, though not my absolute favorite. It has a nice naturalĀ  soft scent, which I like in my skincare products since I don’t like the feeling of strong scent that feels artificial (and that probably is).

The product is advised to be applied on your dry skin, massaging it in till all the dirt and makeup has been melted, and then adding a little bit of water to emulsify it before washing it out. In this point it was different than the cleansing oil that I usually use since it really turned of a milky consistency when you mixed it with the water before rinsing. I actually quite like this since it gives me the impression of a deeper cleanse, and then it’s easier to make sure you have rinsed it all due to the new consistency and appearance. I don’t really mind my other cleansing oils not turning into a milky consistency, but I have to admit that this was a nice point for this one.

AM to the PM Gel Cleanser

This probably is my least favorite of all the products I’ve tried from Fourth Ray Beauty. It gets the work done and it’s not bad at all, but it has a watermelon/sweet scent that I think makes it less desirable, and also I didn’t find it as special as the other products.

Anyway as I have said, it works properly and the scent is (leaving aside my personal preferences) quite nice. You use it like your regular face wash after the cleansing oil to make sure everything gets squeaky clean and to remove any trace of the oil, dirt or makeup. A very little amount is needed while you need almost three times the amount for the oil, which makes me think it’s weird that in he full size packages you actually get more gel cleanser than cleansing oil.

Keep Clear Clarifying Tonic

Now we get to the interesting part. This tonic might be my favorite Fourth Ray Beauty product and also probably my favorite tonic in the world. It has a strong scent of tea tree oil, which I like because I know that tea tree smells that strong naturally (and I also personally love the scent itself). This tonic does exactly what its name claims. I’ve never been a fan of typical astringent tonics and in fact I only started loving tonics when I started using the K-Beauty ones which are completely different of our Occidental regular tonics, so I didn’t even pay attention to this product at first. In fact I only got to try it when I decided to use the full set together to test its efficiency as a whole. And what a discovery. It is a traditional Occidental tonic but it works. Your skin turns brighter, clearer and of a much healthier appearance. My skin is sensitive and has been really problematic during my teenage years and a lot of time after that. This doesn’t irritate it or cause me to break out. At all.

I totally recommend this one, in fact it would be the first full size I’ll purchase if I get the opportunity. Also it pairs perfectly with The Lightweight Hydrator, which I always use with this tonic. In between I use always some kind of formula of serum (currently The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc solution), because I have noticed that the efficiency of the Fourth Ray Beauty pair doesn’t diminish this way.

The Lightweight Hydrator

As I said with the tonic as well, this Fourth Ray Beauty moisturizer does exactly what it claims: it is lightweight and it is a wonderful hydrator. My skin absolutely loves it, when it has actually always been (as well as with tonics) very picky about moisturizers. It might be the Squalane in it but this works wonders. You use it after the tonic and formulas/serums that you may use and it hydrates your skin perfectly. It leaves a nice feeling on the skin, absorbs really quickly and doesn’t leave any residue or stickiness behind. It’s literally like skin drank it up. Also, and I find this very special, it can be layered to achieve the desired amount or hydration.

I recommend you all this one too, specially if your skin is sensitive, oily, or basically any skin type or condition except super dry – I imagine that in that case you might one to choose something less lightweight, but I still would recommend this before your heavier creams. It just leaves such a balanced and smooth complexion, and it doesn’t dry my skin out at all (though my skin is not dry itself, it has some incredibly dry patches).

Conclusion

I think that the set works perfectly together and it is very convenient if you want to get started on the brand or on the double cleansing method. The products are great but the first two could be interchangeable with any other double cleansing products, while the last two are really special in my opinion and really deserve that you try your hand with them because they can be really game changer if your skin likes them.

Travel-Size-Group_a_800x

All in all I would say this has been a great discovery, and that I was quite impressed with the products. The only downside that I’d have to point it would be the artificial scents in some of the products of the brand, which don’t go very well with my preferences or with the general concept that the brand is promoting. Besides from that, I can’t wait to keep trying more products because for the prize they have, they are of an amazing quality and have improved my skin a lot.

And that’s it! I hope that you enjoyed this review and that it made you made up your mind if you were consider trying it!
I absolutely recommend going for this set if you want to try the brand because it has a great value and you get to try the whole ‘routine’ which I think improves a lot when used together that if you just tried one product alone.

I’m very excited to keep trying and reviewing Fourth Ray Beauty so I’ll see you around here in my next review of the brand!

Have an amazing day and lots of love!

Vitamasques: K-Beauty Brand Masks Review Part 1

Hello! Today I’m going to review the Vitamasques masks that I got in my lovely batch that I told you about in my previous Vitamasques post.

I have really dived in with these reviews on each individual mask so I decided to break this post into two parts so you could easily access whichever mask you are interested about.

I really hope you like it and enjoy the read!

Citrine Face Mask

This was the first mask of the pack I used, since I was pretty excited with all the combination therapy claims, and also because I’m naturally drawn to minerals and colors so I was very curious about this one.

The fabric was different of the ones that had tried before, which were either soft and dense or like a more paper consistency, but this one was fibrous and soft at the same time. I did enjoy the smell and the application was really easy as it stayed on with no sliding or problems whatsoever. When I applied it, there was a lot of remaining serum on the packaging, which I like to use in my neck, hands etc.

After about 20 minutes I removed it, and most of the essence was absorbed into my skin. While other masks still are very damp when you retire them and others tend to dry up faster than they should, these worked perfectly in the prescribed time and the sheet mask was dry but not excessively when I retired it. While I was using it, it stung a little bit on my face, but my skin could have been sensitized due to the use of acids lately on my routine. Anyway it was bearable, just a little bit.

My skin looked brighter and felt great and revitalized, not much as hydrated and soft as evened up and energized. Would definitely want to try the other ones in the gemstones line to see the different effects they can achieve, so I’ll be really looking forward to get more of these.

Black Gold Mask

The next day I picked this mask because I’m always curious about products with gold in it (right as I write I’m spotting a gold speck in my left hand because I just used this one), and purifying masks have been my favorite for a long long time, though I now prefer brightening ones.

The mask fitted perfectly and was less soft than the first one and with more of a wipe consistence, fibrous and thin, with little gold specks all over it. The smell was pleasant though not very special for me, and I used the remaining essence on my neck and hands like always.

Charcoal masks have always been one of my most used ones, along with other charcoal products, since I have dealt with problematic skin and blemishes for the longest time, though that era seem to be over. Being accustomed to this ingredient, I knew it could be a little harsh on my skin but the mask didn’t feel uncomfortable at any time, though it was a little bit itchy, like the last one, in my driest areas like around the mouth.

After the initial occasional stinginess, the mask felt super fresh and relaxing while I had it on. I really felt in the mood of just enjoying the self care moment and peacefully wait til the alarm went off instead of keeping fiddling around with my computer.

In fact, I was so relaxed with this one that tried a technique that I had been looking to try for a while, and that is using a face roller over the sheet mask. I still need to investigate more about face rollers and maybe put up an article about those because they seem really interesting to me and I recently got my first one, an obsidian one from Fourth Ray Beauty. The more I rolled and the more I left the mask on, the more refreshing and amazing it felt on the skin, till I finally stopped and retired it. My skin felt cool and fresh and looked brighter than before using the mask

I have to say that my opinion on this one improved a lot after my first impression, which was good, but I grew to absolutely love its refreshing effect and the rolling experience! One very special mask to definitely try.

Multivitamin Sheet Mask

This one really caught my attention the day I chose to use it because with the spring starting and all, and though I always wear sunscreen, I had a little sunburn situation going on and my skin was really dry around the mouth. All in all I wanted a more nourishing/hydrating mask rather than a purifying one to let my skin recover a bit from the dehydration, so this mask seemed perfect with all the vitamins and nourishing power. It also claimed to have a brightening power which I’m always up for so I went ahead and picked it.

This one also had a lot of left over essence which I could use all over my neck, arms and hands, and it gave a very refreshing sensation from the beginning, kind of similar to the one I had at the end with the Black Gold mask, but this time there was no tingling or stinging.

I have to say that the face roller technique improved the mask experience immensely so this time I reached for it as soon as I was settled with the mask. I like to think that I make the most of the mask this way, since it is supposed to improve absorption of skin care products, and also the relaxing effect is boosted by the cooling quality of the mask so it was perfect. I think that from now on I’ll use my face roller on any mask that allows it!

When I removed the mask my skin felt really nice and comfortable, and it definitely added a beautiful glow to it!

Cosmic Pink Ruby Glitter Peel Off Mask

I picked this one as the first mask for a Friday Night skin care intensive. I was really curious about it because I had been hearing about and seeing glitter masks everywhere but I hadn’t had the opportunity to try one yet. I also had a Purifying one in my set, but since the good weather started my skin has turned a little more dry than usually, probably because of the action of the sun, so I picked this one since it claimed to be revitalizing. I usually prefer sheet masks to peel off ones, so I decided to leave the best for the end and use this one first and then end up the session with a sheet one.

I was advised to only use it in my T-zone because it could be a little painful to remove from the areas with peach fuzz and so I did, because I generally tend to have that kind of problems with peel off masks.

It had a really nice and fruity smell, and it was very refreshing when applied. I was afraid all the refreshment will turn into irritation, since I had just used a peeling cleanser before using the mask and I was scared that my skin might be too sensitive, but it didn’t. The refreshing sensation lasted as the mask dried and it did feel quite revitalizing indeed! I even felt more active and awake though it was late at night, nothing exaggerated but all the refreshment and nice fruity scent took my drowsiness away. I enjoyed the moment and left it on till it dried completely.

It was actually pretty difficult and a little painful to remove, but that has happened to me with every peel of mask that I have ever tried and I had already prepared myself to it so it wasn’t too annoying. My skin was all red when I finally took it all off but not in a bad and irritated way actually, more of that intense natural blush glow that you get when you have a fever. I would recommend using this before another more hydrating and deeply nourishing mask as I did, because your skin is left a little bit upset (though not upset looking) after the removal process and the sensation of a sheet mask after that doesn’t have a price!

Jeju Green Tea Mask

I had this one ready to use right after the Cosmic Glitter Pink one and I have to say that I couldn’t have made a better choice. I generally love green tea masks so I had been saving this one for I day that my skin really needed some love, and still it surprised me so much in a positive way.

The sheet was really soft and the essence had a texture that I really loved, kind of similar to real essence ampules and serums from Korean Beauty cosmetics. Usually the essence that sheet masks have tend to be a little too on the messy side for me, much more viscose than what I would wish for. But with this one it wasn’t the case, the mask was a delight to apply and after the peel off mask my skin felt instantly calmed and quenched. The left over essence on the package was a pleasure to use since it absorbed really quickly and had a very light weight but deeply hydrating formula.

Having it on was such a nice experience, my skin felt so so revitalized and cooled down since the moment I applied it, it was the perfect way to end my skin care intensive session.

I obviously had to use my face roller on it, but I waited for a bit so it had time to act on its own and when I felt like the main impact had already passed, I took out my roller and rolled and rolled over it while I finished watching a movie. I had had a very busy week so I hadn’t had time to use my face roller since the last time I used a sheet mask, so my face felt absolutely amazing while rolling over this mask. I know that I have said it quite a few times already but I highly encourage you to try and use a face roller over your favorite sheet masks since it is such an amazing experience and I think it really boosts the effect of the masks, and also it is as relaxing as ant other kind of massage – I’m always in pain so I’m a massage addict myself.

When I removed the mask my skin felt so amazing that I thought it just needed some oil to seal in the goodness (I picked argan oil in this occasion) and I could already get on my bed. Probably it was the combination of the hard to remove but effective peel off mask and the soothing properties of this one, but my skin felt perfectly smooth as I applied the oil, with zero roughness, impurities or dry patches. This was probably the most amazing my skin texture has been after a mask session! Will definitely use this one again.

And that is all!
I will be back very soon with the second part of this post where I review the remaining masks of the set and where I’ll also be giving some final thoughs and conclussions about them and the use of sheet masks or masks in general as a part of a self care routine.
I really hope you enjoyed it!
Lots of love.
