Vitamasques: K-Beauty Brand Masks Review Part 1

Hello! Today I’m going to review the Vitamasques masks that I got in my lovely batch that I told you about in my previous Vitamasques post.

I have really dived in with these reviews on each individual mask so I decided to break this post into two parts so you could easily access whichever mask you are interested about.

I really hope you like it and enjoy the read!

Citrine Face Mask

This was the first mask of the pack I used, since I was pretty excited with all the combination therapy claims, and also because I’m naturally drawn to minerals and colors so I was very curious about this one.

The fabric was different of the ones that had tried before, which were either soft and dense or like a more paper consistency, but this one was fibrous and soft at the same time. I did enjoy the smell and the application was really easy as it stayed on with no sliding or problems whatsoever. When I applied it, there was a lot of remaining serum on the packaging, which I like to use in my neck, hands etc.

After about 20 minutes I removed it, and most of the essence was absorbed into my skin. While other masks still are very damp when you retire them and others tend to dry up faster than they should, these worked perfectly in the prescribed time and the sheet mask was dry but not excessively when I retired it. While I was using it, it stung a little bit on my face, but my skin could have been sensitized due to the use of acids lately on my routine. Anyway it was bearable, just a little bit.

My skin looked brighter and felt great and revitalized, not much as hydrated and soft as evened up and energized. Would definitely want to try the other ones in the gemstones line to see the different effects they can achieve, so I’ll be really looking forward to get more of these.

Black Gold Mask

The next day I picked this mask because I’m always curious about products with gold in it (right as I write I’m spotting a gold speck in my left hand because I just used this one), and purifying masks have been my favorite for a long long time, though I now prefer brightening ones.

The mask fitted perfectly and was less soft than the first one and with more of a wipe consistence, fibrous and thin, with little gold specks all over it. The smell was pleasant though not very special for me, and I used the remaining essence on my neck and hands like always.

Charcoal masks have always been one of my most used ones, along with other charcoal products, since I have dealt with problematic skin and blemishes for the longest time, though that era seem to be over. Being accustomed to this ingredient, I knew it could be a little harsh on my skin but the mask didn’t feel uncomfortable at any time, though it was a little bit itchy, like the last one, in my driest areas like around the mouth.

After the initial occasional stinginess, the mask felt super fresh and relaxing while I had it on. I really felt in the mood of just enjoying the self care moment and peacefully wait til the alarm went off instead of keeping fiddling around with my computer.

In fact, I was so relaxed with this one that tried a technique that I had been looking to try for a while, and that is using a face roller over the sheet mask. I still need to investigate more about face rollers and maybe put up an article about those because they seem really interesting to me and I recently got my first one, an obsidian one from Fourth Ray Beauty. The more I rolled and the more I left the mask on, the more refreshing and amazing it felt on the skin, till I finally stopped and retired it. My skin felt cool and fresh and looked brighter than before using the mask

I have to say that my opinion on this one improved a lot after my first impression, which was good, but I grew to absolutely love its refreshing effect and the rolling experience! One very special mask to definitely try.

Multivitamin Sheet Mask

This one really caught my attention the day I chose to use it because with the spring starting and all, and though I always wear sunscreen, I had a little sunburn situation going on and my skin was really dry around the mouth. All in all I wanted a more nourishing/hydrating mask rather than a purifying one to let my skin recover a bit from the dehydration, so this mask seemed perfect with all the vitamins and nourishing power. It also claimed to have a brightening power which I’m always up for so I went ahead and picked it.

This one also had a lot of left over essence which I could use all over my neck, arms and hands, and it gave a very refreshing sensation from the beginning, kind of similar to the one I had at the end with the Black Gold mask, but this time there was no tingling or stinging.

I have to say that the face roller technique improved the mask experience immensely so this time I reached for it as soon as I was settled with the mask. I like to think that I make the most of the mask this way, since it is supposed to improve absorption of skin care products, and also the relaxing effect is boosted by the cooling quality of the mask so it was perfect. I think that from now on I’ll use my face roller on any mask that allows it!

When I removed the mask my skin felt really nice and comfortable, and it definitely added a beautiful glow to it!

Cosmic Pink Ruby Glitter Peel Off Mask

I picked this one as the first mask for a Friday Night skin care intensive. I was really curious about it because I had been hearing about and seeing glitter masks everywhere but I hadn’t had the opportunity to try one yet. I also had a Purifying one in my set, but since the good weather started my skin has turned a little more dry than usually, probably because of the action of the sun, so I picked this one since it claimed to be revitalizing. I usually prefer sheet masks to peel off ones, so I decided to leave the best for the end and use this one first and then end up the session with a sheet one.

I was advised to only use it in my T-zone because it could be a little painful to remove from the areas with peach fuzz and so I did, because I generally tend to have that kind of problems with peel off masks.

It had a really nice and fruity smell, and it was very refreshing when applied. I was afraid all the refreshment will turn into irritation, since I had just used a peeling cleanser before using the mask and I was scared that my skin might be too sensitive, but it didn’t. The refreshing sensation lasted as the mask dried and it did feel quite revitalizing indeed! I even felt more active and awake though it was late at night, nothing exaggerated but all the refreshment and nice fruity scent took my drowsiness away. I enjoyed the moment and left it on till it dried completely.

It was actually pretty difficult and a little painful to remove, but that has happened to me with every peel of mask that I have ever tried and I had already prepared myself to it so it wasn’t too annoying. My skin was all red when I finally took it all off but not in a bad and irritated way actually, more of that intense natural blush glow that you get when you have a fever. I would recommend using this before another more hydrating and deeply nourishing mask as I did, because your skin is left a little bit upset (though not upset looking) after the removal process and the sensation of a sheet mask after that doesn’t have a price!

Jeju Green Tea Mask

I had this one ready to use right after the Cosmic Glitter Pink one and I have to say that I couldn’t have made a better choice. I generally love green tea masks so I had been saving this one for I day that my skin really needed some love, and still it surprised me so much in a positive way.

The sheet was really soft and the essence had a texture that I really loved, kind of similar to real essence ampules and serums from Korean Beauty cosmetics. Usually the essence that sheet masks have tend to be a little too on the messy side for me, much more viscose than what I would wish for. But with this one it wasn’t the case, the mask was a delight to apply and after the peel off mask my skin felt instantly calmed and quenched. The left over essence on the package was a pleasure to use since it absorbed really quickly and had a very light weight but deeply hydrating formula.

Having it on was such a nice experience, my skin felt so so revitalized and cooled down since the moment I applied it, it was the perfect way to end my skin care intensive session.

I obviously had to use my face roller on it, but I waited for a bit so it had time to act on its own and when I felt like the main impact had already passed, I took out my roller and rolled and rolled over it while I finished watching a movie. I had had a very busy week so I hadn’t had time to use my face roller since the last time I used a sheet mask, so my face felt absolutely amazing while rolling over this mask. I know that I have said it quite a few times already but I highly encourage you to try and use a face roller over your favorite sheet masks since it is such an amazing experience and I think it really boosts the effect of the masks, and also it is as relaxing as ant other kind of massage – I’m always in pain so I’m a massage addict myself.

When I removed the mask my skin felt so amazing that I thought it just needed some oil to seal in the goodness (I picked argan oil in this occasion) and I could already get on my bed. Probably it was the combination of the hard to remove but effective peel off mask and the soothing properties of this one, but my skin felt perfectly smooth as I applied the oil, with zero roughness, impurities or dry patches. This was probably the most amazing my skin texture has been after a mask session! Will definitely use this one again.

And that is all!
I will be back very soon with the second part of this post where I review the remaining masks of the set and where I’ll also be giving some final thoughs and conclussions about them and the use of sheet masks or masks in general as a part of a self care routine.
I really hope you enjoyed it!
Lots of love.

Balmain Fall 2019 Ready-To-Wear Collection

Again and for another season, style and couture recently had a meeting in the last Paris Fashion Week. And as always, one of the most commented and awaited collections arrived without disappointing anyone, including myself. The era of Olivier Rousteig as head designer for the Balmain house is consolidating itself as one of the most prominent in the history of the brand.

Atmosphere BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (3)

The style that Rousteig brings to his designs are instantly recognizable, as he masterfully brings together his own aesthetics with the inspiration from contemporary trends in the couture world. Also, since he started his career at the front of Balmain, his collections seem to have been evolving one into another, following a creative direction that draws a fine and particular mind from one year to another and that drag us into his artistic world. As we commented in the latest Balmain fashion shows, his Fall 2018 collection seemed to evolve into his Spring 2019 one, as if this last one was a continuation of he creative process in the one before. And this time we can appreciate the same continuity in his Fall 2019, with which he has gifted the world in this last Paris Fashion Week.

Atmosphere BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (2)

That is probably one of my favorite things about the work of Rousteig in Balmain, the continuity and the flowing artistry of his designs and collections. While other designers choose to pick very different inspirations and for each of their collections and follow completely different conceptual lines for each season (for example, Marc Jacobs comes to my mind in this aspect), Rousteig kindly guides us into the continuously evolving flow of style that is his work.

The Fashion Show

As always first of all, let’s enjoy the show, which is as stunning as always with that particular music selection that can only be from Balmain!

The Collection

The fashion show starts with some creations based on what will be the center of the collection: black. It is true that Olivier Rousteig always uses black as a main pillar for his collections, but in the particular case he has raised it to the category of the clear protagonist of the show. The influence of this color isn’t dimmed as in his latest collection by neon or holographic effects. The elegance shines through a masterful use of this color all through the collection.

The show starts by presenting a few designs where the main vehicle to present this ‘queen of colors’ as Pierre-Auguste Renoir defined it, is leather or wool, always studded or paired with transparencies, that remark even more the visual weight of bold pieces like oversized jackets.

Creations that are based on a unique type of fabric besides being monochrome also populate this collection. As the show develops and evolves, denim, another of Rousteig usual pillars, and white will start to appear to complement the statement that black makes.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (4)BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (5)

Shoes in this collection are mainly based in that leather and studs relationship that we mentioned before. Though we can see mainly boots, there are also a few sandal pieces that also combine patent leather or black velvet with silver and metallic appliances.

Soon, the combinations with white that we have mentioned also gain prominence, being combined mainly also with leather and denim.

A very particular concept resource that Rousteig uses to support this collection is as we have said before, combining the visual weight of bold pieces with transparencies. A characteristic trademark that we will see repeatedly is the mid openings in the pieces that will leave the waist, elbows, and even more frequently, the shoulders, exposed. This will be achieved either with plastics, see-through fabrics or directly with naked openings, that will emphasize the structure of the pieces.

Tweed will also appear as a central pillar of the collection, accompanying wool, and combinations of materials and effects will be interleaved with block outfits, such as denim ones.

At this point of the show we will see appear another of the chracteristic features of this collection: fabrics that are worked in the shape of floral references, specially roses or carnations. This is a collection where Rousteig has left aside the majority of his recently most used ‘special effects’ such as iridescent and holographic finishes or bold colors, but this embellishment will appear through the collection in many designs and is an innovation in his resources that is introduced in this collection.

Fringes, on the other hand, are a very used and common resource in his creations, and also appears in this collection combined with a great variety of fabric and finishes, nearly always in black or white.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (21)BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (22)

The two pieces above are in my opinion one of the most gorgeous of the collection. The combination of two of his most characteristic features, transparent plastic fabrics and studs, are combined here masterfully over the naked body or elegant white pieces, giving a great deal of boldness to the accessories such as belts or shoes. It is amazing how he recreates the concept of leather without using it, just alluding to it using the structure of plastic and the character of the studs.

Half way into the show, a few glimpses of color, mainly under saturated ones, are presented through the textures and fabrics used before. The floral/carnations designs are once again seen, and then mint and pastel purple take the place of black being the center of a few designs.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (28)

The colors are presented both in a uniformity of fabrics and also in combinations of them. I think this brief appearance of color is a small breath of fresh air into the collection. I doesn’t overshadow the importance of the elegance in the decision of keeping the collection mainly toned down, and still it adds a little lightness to it. We can observe how amazingly the effect of a design can change just changing the color of it: though the same resources are used, these pieces give a much more innocent and fresh appearance without losing any of the elegance.

In the final stretch of the show we are presented with some of the most stunning designs of the collection. Rousteig uses a few resources that he has prominently used through his work at the front of Balmain, such as lace, asymmetrical structured cuts and more transparencies.

Here are introduced the chest openings that are the center of quite a few of his final designs. Very bold pieces are often compensated with transparencies in the chest, which is a very distinctive characteristic of this particular collection in my opinion.

The effect achieved with this is frankly amazing and this last part of the show leaves us with a great sensation of couture raised to a higher level.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (37)

At the end of the show we see all the artistic resources used through the collection interlinked one more time, going back to black to close the circle that Rousteig drew with his creations. The most chic designs are seen in this final part, and the show closes in the most elegant way.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (41)

Sequins make an stellar appearance in these final creations, enhancing the chicness of the designs. Long capes are also prominent in this last pieces, as well as once again the openings in the waist area, asymmetries, combinations with patent leather, and white blouse fragments that are used as a complement for these stunning pieces.

BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (48)

All in all, this collection deviates from his last ones in the sense that elegance here bears an even greater significance.

I can see a lot of influence of the work of for example Thierry Mugler, in this conception of elegance as an otherworldly feature that must be honored, but I also appreciate an evolution within his own work, and many references to his own creations.

Olivier Rousteig without a doubt consolidates himself as a true haute couture designer with this collection, leaving aside all of his usual ‘special effects’ to focus on the solidity of the pieces.

A collection to be taken seriously.

Beauty

As usual, the focus on Balmain shows is on the pieces and models wear a natural, almost no makeup look not to steal the light of the designs. In this case anyhow, we can see the use of very minimalist accessories, mainly this metallic chain headband that is repeated in quite a few of the looks.

Skin doesn’t look either too matte or too dewy but perfectly balanced and radiant, which is a basic characteristic of Balmain fashion shows: models look perfectly flawless without using makeup as a creative statement, just letting it enhance their features and letting their natural and individual beauty shine through.

Beauty BALMAIN FALL 19 DEATHLESSVOGUE (7)

Another important feature of this show that is also an innovation in relation with the latest Balmain collection is the appearance of berets: these are used to emphasize the Parisian chicness of the pieces, using leather and studs to give boldness to the designs.

Overall, the look is like always fresh and polished.

Details, Accessories and Shoes

Here I have made a selection of the most important and beautiful detail shots that were made during the show.

I love to observe the final designs (that encompass the designs, the shoes and the accessories) in a closer way so I can appreciate all the passion and care that were put into their creation.

Most of the features that we have talked about can be further appreciated in these shots of an indisputable beauty.

We can also appreciate that, as well as in the outfits, leather and studs are the leiv motif that bring all the creations together through their use in the accessories such as bags, belts and shoes.

Plastic transparencies can be better appreciated and we discover that even more resources than the ones we initially noticed are used, for example these nearly iridescent sequins that are paired with denim here down below.

The freshness of the very few colors used, mint and pastel purple as we said, is even more appreciable when the whole effect that they create in combination with the choice of fabrics is observed closely.

Patent leather makes truly a bold statement that is conveyed perfectly with all the different textures that are given to it through the collection.

And that is all!

As we mentioned before this is a collection that followed the path that Rousteig himself was tracing in his last collections for Balmain but at the same times breaks with it taking his creations a step further with this truly unforgettable elegance statement.

I hope that you enjoyed this collection as much as I did and I expect to see you all really soon!
Lots of love.

Vitamasques: K-Beauty Brand and Products First Impressions

Hello everyone!
Today I bring you my first impressions about the English K-Beauty brand Vitamasques and a little bit of my opinion on skin care and how following a routine benefits both the physical condition of the skin and our mental well being.

The K-Beauty Philosophy

As I talked about in my last article, K-Beauty is all about enjoying the moment and making the most of your skin care routine. Skin care turns into the art of self care, where every second your spend going through your routine is a second you have for achieving inner peace and enjoy a pause away from the modern world.

I’m very happy to see that Western society is slowly taking these values as an example, and luckily now you can find European or American brands that are following the K-Beauty trend, and not only regarding the cute packaging and marketing. These brands are also encouraging the well being of their costumers, inspiring them to take this ‘self care’ routine seriously and offering products that allow them to sink into this routine in a conscious and motivational way.

I recently discovered the British brand Vitamasques, which is one of the above mentioned. Their products, which are mainly masks of diverse types, are designed following the lines of K-Beauty, not only regarding ingredients and packaging but also giving a lot of importance to that self care philosophy.
I have had the luck to be able to try this brand first hand and I want to share this little journey with you, so I’ll talk about my first impressions on the brand and products first and then I will try each one of them in a ‘skin care’ intensive when I will use one product per day and review all of them in another article, where I’ll give you my full opinion on the whole experience and the brand too, along with some conclusions on the importance and benefits of taking up the habit or transforming your skin care routine in an actual self care routine.

Vitamasques: The brand

Before my impressions I will let you know what Vitamasques has to say about itself as in their ‘About Us‘ section in their website:

“We’re a Korean-British brand pioneering affordable but effective skincare to the west. With our impeccable standards of production & design, we’re dedicated to ensuring our products are free-from as many things as possible, such as animal cruelty, parabens, mineral oils and sulphates.

We make our products with the latest innovations and technology straight from South Korea, with an emphasize of quality above all else.

Our no.1 priority is making sure our customers skin care is easy to use and affordable, while remaining effective.

The team is always pushing new formulations that are focused on getting rid of ‘negative’ ingredients and practices such as parabens, mineral oils, sulphates and animal cruelty . We’re also trying to make more products Vegan friendly too!”

I must say that besides being a shop, I find the Vitamasques website quite interesting and entertaining. You can clearly feel their passion for their brand and for what they offer. They have a ‘Skin Journal‘ section where articles about skin care and such can be found. For me, researching about what is good for your own skin is a very important step of taking up the K-Beauty philosophy, since each individual has their own necessities. Therefore, I’m always up for reading about skin care journeys, advice, reviews and what not, so having this section in their website is definitely a very positive point for me.

Also, they have another section called ‘Mask Finder‘ where they guide you through their products depending on what your skin concerns are and what you are looking for in a mask. Besides that, you can check out all of their products and recommendations in their shop section.

All in all the brand gives me a really positive vibe. As I have said before, the passion they have for K-Beauty is really noticeable and each product is designed with the greatest love. They want you enjoy using them as much as they did coming up with it and I think that’s simply great. Not many brands actually care about their costumers that much, and Vitamasques is definitely one of those.

It’s one of those brands that you feel good about supporting them, and that makes you rely on their products as much as in their passion.

Also mention that they have a physical store in London (you can find their exact location in their website), which I really wish I could visit, and that they have also a Youtube channel with tutorials, reviews and all kinds of useful and fun videos, along with other social media such a Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Masks Package: The products

I got a totally fantastic package where I could find a little bit of everything from the brand. It included a total of nine products, with sheet masks, sleep in masks, eye patches and much more among them, along with a super cute panda headband to make sure your hair is kept out of the way while you submerge yourself in the sacred time of the skin care routine.

Vitamasques DeathlessVogue

I can’t wait to start using them, I will be reviewing each one of them as I use them in my notes and when I’m done with the whole package I’ll post another article with all the reviews and my final impressions and conclusions.

I’m so excited to begin this journey into improving my self care routine through a more deep, conscious and kinder skin care routine and I’m very happy to do it by the hand of such an awesome brand as Vitamasques.

Will be back soon with those reviews so stay tuned for more!
Thank for reading and lots of love!
